11th JULY 2007 (1st Class)

Hie :)

Hmm.. What should i say, how should i put it, err.. anyway, i'll just put my thoughts to paper..oops, did i say paper? aha.. thoughts to my blog.
Yea, that's it. that's a new practice, a new habit, that i'm learning to adapt to.
Well, my assignment's on creating a blog.

Ya, reflecting back on my first few days in the uni is just like any other ordinary days, like how days used to pass by with little significance.. bUT i do not deny the extraordinary part of it.. thanking each day as a blessing from God. One of those that leave a footprint would be the ever challenging and interactive way of learning and going through lectures with computers right in front of me. I'm loving it! :)

First class in the "Technology in the Primay Education" (PKEY3101). What does the topic encompas? It's a wide topic which covers the changes technology brings to schools in the 21st century. Technology brings about a diversity in the methods of teaching, enhancing teaching and learning, developing pupils' creativity and IT skills, and most of all it makes learning easier, adding more fun to a learning environment beyond the four walls of the classroom. The concept of 'soft skills' is also brought to mind. It includes communication, CCTS, team work, entrepreneurship, moral ethics, and leadership. Well, with technology comes changes or transformation. What is the most difficult element to undergo changes in a school? Among some others would be the culture, rules, mindet or attitudes of the school community, bureaucracy of the school, and the climate or environment of the learning institution.

Another new concept learnt in this class is the POEIT- Pedagogy of Engagement Integrating Technology. This acronym exposes me to the learner's ways of learning which is through engaging, personalising, empowering learners as well the environment which plays an crucial role to ensure effective learning takes place. In short, the learning process is encapsulated in the word with the highest rate of courtesy level, "PLEASE", which spells out 'Personalised, Learning, Environment, And Student Engagement.'

Well, that's basically what I've gathered in the first class. Hope to learn and be equipped with many more IT skills at hand, realising the importance of technology in the primary education in my quest to be an effective educator to the young learners.

Ideas to add? comments? All are most welcome! Thanks.
